Ardent hikers will know that there’s a world of difference between a good walking shoe and a genuine hiking boot. Like a good pair of tyres, dependable walking boots will get you off-road, down dale and pretty much wherever the heck you want. Hiking boots and shoes don’t come with restrictions, just a map of the world and a licence to roam. (Or at least they should do!)
Just because hiking shoes and boots are heavy duty, it doesn’t mean they’re utilitarian. While walkers and hikers of all persuasions prize robustness and comfort, good design is aesthetically and practically important too. There’s an awful lot of science in a walking boot: specially treated anti clog rubber soles, shock resistant mid soles; even orthopaedic features – all of which makes for a comfortably fit boot that can accompany you anywhere and everywhere. Water resistant too – naturally. Full grain leather is pretty much impervious to everything; keeping your feet dry from the outside in, while breathable membranes and liners keep your feet dry from the inside out.
Because it’s built to last, your hiking boot will be an investment. Treat it well and it will treat you to many years of exhilarating hiking.
